Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos or also known as Day of the dead is for celebrating those who have passed, not in a sad, mourning way. Instead in a very positive joyful way. Dia de los Muertos is originally from Mexico and is celebrated every year on November 2nd. People often create altars for their dead loved ones. These altars include candles to light the way for the dead and include sweet smelling flowers and the person's favorite things.
I chose to celebrate my dog Raisin. Because she was a dog and we didn't have her all of her life it was difficult to write about her age and origin so I focused on what she liked and what she looked like. For her Alter I had a photo of her and a small art piece of a dog silhouette with the skeleton and a bunch of bright colored flowers. I also had some huge paper flowers, vibrant orange gerber daisies and some red and brown candles.
In the beginning I knew the gist Dia de los Muertos but through this project I really got to understand this holiday more and celebrate it from a new perspective. I thought this was a perfect way to turn the things we learned in spanish into a presentable exhibition.
My description:

Writing Story Books
For this project we took everything we learned and put it to writing story books. These children's books our class wrote will be published, printed and shipped to Nicaragua for children who don't have access to books to read. This project was inspired by a man who collected books and transported them on the back of his book. My book is called 'El Oso' which translates to 'The Bear'. My story is about a kind bear who becomes a hero.
